—Medicinal Action and Uses— Although Caraway seed are not used much today for medicinal action in the past both the fruit and oil have been used for , stimulant and properties. In the past Caraway was widely used for carminative cordial, and symptoms attending hysteria and other disorders. It has some tonic property and forms a pleasant . World wide Caraway seed are meanly used for flavoring agents, combined with purgatives.

—Nutrient Source— The fruits, usually used whole, have a pungent, anise-like flavor and aroma that come from essential oils, mostly carvone and limonene. They are used as a spice in breads especially rye bread. Caraway is also used in liquorscasseroles, and other foods, especially in Central European and Scandinavian cuisine, for instance sauerkraut. It is also used to add flavor to cheeses such as havartiAkvavit and several liqueurs are also made with caraway.

The roots may be cooked as a root vegetable like parsnips or carrots.

RecipeCaraway Milk—for , crush some seeds and simmer them in milk for about twenty minutes.   Strain, and give the liquid to the individual.

RecipeCaraway Julep – Steep two tablespoons of the bruised seeds for six hours in a print of cold water.  Strain the liquid, and give it to the infant in tiny, child-sized teaspoons to alleviate colic or digestive problems.

Recipe: Poultices – Bruised and simmer caraway tea may also be used to relieve swellings of the breast; testicles; earaches.  These health problems should be investigated by a physician to avoid future complications.

Recipe: Adult Colic – For spasms, combine three cloves of garlic with five tablespoons of caraway seed, and simmer that for about fifteen minutes in milk.  Strain the liquid, add some boiled water, and drink it.

Recipe: Bruise – Bruise the seeds, heat them with hot, soft bread, and apply this to black and blue marks.

Recipe: Nursing Mothers – Bruise some seeds and steep in a pint of boiled water.  Strain out the seeds and drink freely.  In addition to increasing milk flow, caraway also eases windiness in mother and child.

Recipe: Ears – heat an unsliced bread loaf in the oven.  Throw away the crust and pound together the soft bread and a handful of bruised caraway seeds.  Add some hot brandy and apply the paste as hot behind or over the ear or any other inflammation.
