“The Immune System”

The Immune system is not a particular organ tissue or group of cells but rather it is the sum of the body's defense functions. #

The Immune system is made of white blood cells and T-cells, macrophage, lymphokines, and enzymes such as immune globins, superoxide dismutase and histamine. The overall function of these defenses is to correctly identify, metabolize and eliminate from the body metabolic waste, cell mutations and allergens that are popularly referred to as “toxins.” Immune processes are a part of every cell and affect all the systems of the body. The names for the herbal combinations are chosen based on the properties of the key in the formula.

Weaknesses in the immune system are characterized by chronic infections and general malaise. Herbalists use immunostimulants an antiseptics to assist the body in ridding itself of infections.

What is the main organ of immune system? Spleen. The spleen is the largest internal organ of the immune system, and as such, it contains a large number of immune system cells. Indeed, about 25 percent of the blood that comes from the flows through the spleen on every beat. As blood circulates through the spleen, it is filtered to detect pathogens.

What are the three immune system organs and their functions? Primary lymphoid organs: These organs include the bone marrow and the thymus. They create special immune system cells called lymphocytes. Secondary lymphoid organs: These organs include the lymph nodes, the spleen, the tonsils and certain tissue in various mucous membrane layers in the body (for instance in the bowel).

The innate immune system. This is your child's rapid response system. It is the first to respond when it finds an invader. It is made up of the skin, the eye's cornea, and the mucous membrane that lines the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary tracts. These all create physical barriers to help protect your child's body. They protect against harmful germs, parasites (such as worms), or cells (such as ). The innate immune system is inherited. It is active from the moment your child is born. When this system recognizes an invader, it goes into action right away. The cells of this immune system surround and cover the invader. The invader is killed inside the immune system cells (called phagocytes).

The acquired immune system: The acquired immune system, with help from the innate system, makes special proteins (called antibodies) to protect your body from a specific invader. These antibodies are developed by cells called B lymphocytes after the body has been exposed to the invader. The antibodies stay in your child's body. It can take several days for antibodies to form. But after the first exposure, the immune system will recognize the invader and defend against it. The acquired immune system changes during your child's life. Immunizations train your child's immune system to make antibodies to protect them from harmful diseases.

Summary. The immune system is a complex network of organs, cells and proteins that defends the body against infection, whilst protecting the body's own cells. The immune system keeps a record of every germ (microbe) it has ever defeated so it can recognize and destroy the microbe quickly if it enters the body again. The tasks of the immune system is to fight disease-causing germs (pathogens) like bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi, and to remove them from the body, to recognize and neutralize harmful substances from the environment, and to fight disease-causing changes in the body, such as cancer cells. #
